The annual RSA Conference is one of the biggest security industry events of the year and, as such, is often a “canary in the coalmine” – signaling the trends, themes and future direction of the security industry. In Episode 2 of Veracode’s AppSec in Review podcast, Brian Fitzgerald, Veracode Chief Marketing Officer, talks to Evan Schuman about what those emerging 2017 trends and themes might be. Fitzgerald expects to see the following topics generate a lot of buzz at RSA this year, and discusses how they might affect the cybersecurity market and policies in the years and months ahead:

  • Geopolitical cybersecurity: From election hacking, to nation-states using cybersecurity as a weapon, what will be the consequences of this new landscape?
  • Ransomware: We’ve focused mostly on the victims thus far – should they pay, how much should they pay? But what about avoiding it in the first place?
  • How software is made: The shift to DevOps means security is moving into the coding process. What are the implications of that shift?
  • IoT: How do we secure them? Do we need regulations? What would those standards look like?

Listen to the podcast for details and discussion on these important and emerging security trends.
