If you’re a security professional, it’s very likely that you or folks you know are putting their last minute travel arrangements in place to go to Black Hat, the premier information security event happening during the week of July 21-26, 2012 in Las Vegas. I was able to ask Trey Ford, general manager at Black Hat and all round super-busy guy, the two questions we all want to know about Black Hat:

Veracode: Black Hat is a very well known event in the security space. Can you tell us how many people you expect to see this year, and also talk about some of the trending topics that will be heard at Black Hat?

Trey: Sure. Over 6500 cyber security professionals from around the world will be attending Black Hat this year. As you know, we see a variety of security related talks and presentations each year, but some recurring themes you will see this year include payment systems and privacy, critical infrastructure, and mobile networks.

Veracode: What is new for Black Hat 2012?

Trey: It’s our 15th anniversary! In addition we expect it to be the biggest Black Hat in history, in terms of attendees, sessions and quality of content. We will see 36 tools, 17 0-days and 49 live onstage demonstrations during the event which I think is awesome. This year’s event will feature talks that point out key security vulnerabilities in global and national infrastructure. Black Hat will feature nine concurrent tracks every day, mixing workshops, roundtables and cutting edge presentations by top security experts. Black Hat trainings take place July 21-24, while the briefings will run from July 25-26.
