Mike Cote, vice president of engineering at Veracode, is responsible for engineering, research, and development. Mr. Cote has over 20 years experience as a technology architect and senior executive, concentrating on compiler design, n-tier architectures, security and network management.

Mr. Cote was director and then vice president of engineering at OpenService, an independent software vendor of security and network management applications. At OpenService he drove the implementation and enhancement of the SystemWatch security agent through multiple versions and integrations with CheckPoint, Nokia and Sonic. He also was in charge of NerveCenter, a network management n-tier application, acquired from Veritas.

Before joining OpenService, Mr. Cote was the director of engineering at Cerulean Systems, where he led the team that created and developed MobileFusion, a mobile access solution for enterprise email and databases. Mobile Fusion incorporated pioneering work in optimized short messaging over CDPD to Microsoft CE handheld devices.

Prior to that, Mr. Cote was a principal engineer and then director of Symantec’s THINK Languages product group. He was part of the team that won the 1991 MacWorld magazine World Class award for Best Programming Language and the MacUser Editor Award for Best Development tools. During his tenure as director, the THINK Languages group produced THINK Reference, one of the first hyper-text reference tools combining Apples Tech Notes and Symantec Tips for programming the Macintosh. He was Symantec’s representative to the ISO C++ Language committee and helped define the modern C++ language.

During his career, Mr. Cote also worked at Desktop Data leading the development of NewsEdge, a real time news delivery service to the desktop. He also authored the enhanced Boolean engine that allowed users to discriminate news stories based on individual profiles.

Mr. Cote earned his Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science degrees in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts.
