Vulnerability Management and Mobile Spyware Among Hot Topics for Security Professionals to be Presented by Veracode at SOURCE Boston

Burlington, Mass. – April 20, 2010 – Veracode, Inc., provider of the world’s leading cloud-based application risk management services platform, today announced its participation in two noteworthy security industry events, SOURCE Boston and BeanSec, part of what CSO magazine’s Bill Brenner calls an infosec revolution in Boston and “a perfect storm of events” for those focused on information security. Veracode CTO Chris Wysopal is participating in the BeanSec meetup taking place on Thursday, April 22 to coincide with the SOURCE Boston event that kicks off on April 21 at Boston’s Seaport Hotel.

Who:

Chris Wysopal, co-founder and CTO, Veracode
Tyler Shields, senior researcher, Veracode

What:

Wysopal will participate on a “Vulnerability Management” panel focusing on the various aspects of the vulnerability management cycle: the assignment of common names for easy identification, using available information to gather appropriate remediation measures, pros and cons of patch testing, and how vulnerability management can be improved as an overall process. Panelists will examine what works, what doesn’t, and what can be done to help improve processes, procedures and remediation techniques.

Shields’ “Blackberry Mobile Spyware - The Monkey Steals the Berries (Part Deux)” will explore the potential risks and threats presented by mobile-related spyware. Spyware has become a primary tool used in the capture of personal and private data. Secretly installed on the computing system of a target victim, spyware can capture, log, monitor and exfiltrate any data that the spyware owner desires. This future-looking presentation will help attendees learn more about the security of their personal data in the age of mobile devices.

When:SOURCE Boston is taking place April 21-23, 2010. Wysopal’s Vulnerability Management panel is scheduled for Thursday, April 22 at 10:00 a.m. Shields’ BlackBerry Mobile Spyware presentation will be held on Friday, April 23 at 1:30 p.m.
Where:Seaport Hotel and Seaport World Trade Center Boston.
