Veracode’s Secure Development Award 2012

Companies recognized for highest application security quality among Veracode SMB customers.

"We’ve created this award to recognize developers’ successes in properly implementing security features during the software development lifecycle,” said Veracode Co-Founder, CISO and CTO, Chris Wysopal. “Historically, security professionals used scanning and application testing tools to only point out flaws in the development process, but we believe this award will help recognize the positive work that developers are doing and celebrate our customer’s dedication to application security.”

The Secure Development Award was created to recognize companies that have the most securely developed software applications in the small to mid-sized business category. While there has always been a need for secure development, the rise in the number of applications being developed and more importantly the increase in cyber attacks are two reasons why this award has been implemented. 2011 has been labeled by many industry professionals as the Year of the Hack with highly publicized breaches to companies like Sony and Nasdaq by organizations like Anonymous and Lulzsec. As reported by datalossdb.org; the tally for breaches in 2011 totaled 1037 incidents, up from only 802 in 2010. As of July 30th there have been over 800 breaches in 2012, if breaches continue at this pace 2012 totals should equal 2011 by the end of September. Veracode’s goal is to award and recognize companies that are developing the most secure code protecting their applications and data from potential breaches.

Conditions and Selections for Award

To be eligible for this award candidates had to be current Veracode customers and fall into Veracode's small to medium business size category. Calculation of winners was based on a flaw density metric from platform scans. It took into account the total number of flaws found and the size of the application scanned per megabyte. The recipients were chosen from a pool of over 18,000 potential applications. On-Line Strategies, PagosOnLine, and SecureKey Technologies Inc. excelled beyond other entries with the most secure applications scanned by Veracode.
